Dr. Graves graduated from the University of Texas, Austin in 2007 with a master’s degree and PhD in developmental psychology. His graduate training focused on therapy, assessment, and research with children and families. His dissertation studied depression and anxiety in adolescents. For his internship, Dr. Graves worked with an inpatient population at a juvenile justice facility in central Texas. Next, he worked for a few years at Georgetown Independent School District, providing evaluations and therapy for students in special education. After completing licensure as a psychologist and a licensed specialist in school psychology (LSSP), he opened the doors on a private practice in 2009.
Over the years his practice has centered on mental health services for males, mostly school aged through young adult. He’s developed an expertise with this population and helping them and their families navigate the formative years. Dr. Graves has an easy-going style that often matches well with young men and helps them feel comfortable engaging with therapy.
As a therapist, Dr. Graves utilizes Interpersonal therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques. He believes strongly in a holistic and collaborative model of care. When appropriate, Dr. Graves prefers to work with the family system to address mental health concerns in young people. He is committed to empirically validated techniques and progress monitoring.
Specialties include the treatment of ADHD, depression, anxiety, OCD, autism spectrum disorders, anger management, general stress management, and sports psychology.
